Summer school has been a part of Ashby's programming from the beginning. Due to COVID-19, summer school has a new significance with the amount of students needing targeted services due to loss of in-person instructional time. Together with many stakeholders, we worked together to plan a summer program that provided targeted services to all students that needed additional support. We ensured that we provided a safe educational environment as we planned for the 2021-2022 summer school. This experience helped me to gain a perspective on how important strong and effective educational leadership is within a district. Below are some of the steps I have taken to be a part of this project to help plan Summer School that used to be known as Targeted Services: *Planning meetings with District Administration and Lakes Country Services Coop to begin the planning process of scheduling summer school. *Collaborated with district administration and school personnel to create a document to give a clear overview and purpose for the elementary summer school program along with a timeline. *Worked with administrators to create an invitation for students that need summer support. *Communicated with administrators and teachers to put together a unified plan for summer school formerly known as targeted services to provide timely and relevant communications with families. This included individualized plans for each student. *With administrators, helped to track attendance for the summer school program. Helped to facilitate proper busing for the summer program and helped book all field trips. My participation in this project has given me the opportunity to be a part of something significant and has broadened my perspective of the intricacies of a summer school program. As we continue to monitor student progress, I will be a part of advocating for students to best meet their needs of support. I will continue to be an advocate for students and work to be an advocate for each school district that I am a part of.
